For Honor’s third year of content kicks off next week. Ahead of the anticipated launch, Ubisoft put together a video to help players get an idea of what’s in store this year. For Honor’s Year 3 is made up of four seasons, as previously revealed. Each season comes with a new character, new in-game event, cosmetic content, as well as balance tweaks and reworks for existing heroes. Though most content is paid, non-owners of the Year 3 Pass will continue to get free maps. As always, you can grind in-game currency to purchase these heroes should you choose.

Later in 2019, For Honor’s other three factions (Vikings, Samurai, and Wu-Lin) will be getting new heroes of their own. The Year 3 Pass grants seven days early access to all new heroes along with other pass-only perks. Said perks include 30 days of Champion Status, five Scavenger Crates, and some exclusive cosmetic items. For Honor’s 2019 content roadmap follows up from last year’s Marching Fire expansion. Marching Fire had plenty of its own new additions, including the Wu-Lin playable faction and Arcade Mode experience.

This blog post has the full lowdown on For Honor’s Year of the Harbinger. According to the post, each of the game’s four playable factions is getting a new playable champion. Ubisoft is keeping the identities of the new champions a secret for now, though the first champion’s reveal is imminent. The Knight champion, titled the Vortiger, also arrives on January 31 alongside the full Year of the Harbinger launch. Keeping a video game in the modern conversation takes a lot of work, particularly with regard to long-term support. Toward that front, Ubisoft is doing its best to keep For Honor fans satisfied, and they've got plans for the year to come. Players can now get a taste of everything they can expect to see in For Honor over the next year in the game's latest Year 3 Deep Dive video, which explores the game's evolution through the Year of the Harbinger.

Black Prior is currently live in the game for anyone who bought the the $30 year three season pass but will be available to everyone else for 15,000 steel (the in-game currency) on February 7. He’s by no means my favorite character, at least after spending a few hours with him. He’s a bit slow to react, and hiding behind a giant kite shield isn’t my preferred style of play. Still, I can’t get enough of his unique counter ability. Unlike other fighters, Black Prior can go into something called Bulwark stance and block everything from any direction save for a guard break. In addition, he can counter incoming attacks by going from Bulwark stance to an attack at just the right moment.

There’s a lot more in store for Year 3, Season 1 of For Honor, as the Shugoki, Warlord, and Peacekeeper will all receive Hero updates. Furthermore, a new Dominion map, Harbor, will be accessible to all For Honor players on January 31 for free. A port town on the shores of Lake Eitrivatnen, Harbor marks a key strategic location that members of the Black Prior once helped the Knights defend against their enemies.
